Department of Microbiology

About

Clinical Microbiology is a specialized branch of medical science that focuses on the study of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites causing human diseases, providing critical insights into infectious diseases, their prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
We are dedicated to exploring the fascinating world of Clinical microorganisms and their impact on human health.

Program

  • Undergraduate course- MBBS
  • Postgraduate course-MD Microbiology

Highlights

  • Comprehensive learning through cadaveric dissection and prosection.
  • Well-equipped histology and embryology labs with modern microscopes.
  • Extensive museum showcasing human specimens, models, and charts.
  • Interactive teaching methods including quizzes, seminars, and group discussions.
  • Dedicated and experienced faculty committed to student success.
  • Research opportunities in developmental and neuroanatomy.
  • Workshops and hands-on training for practical skill development.
  • Student-friendly learning environment promoting curiosity and teamwork.

Vision

• To gain a lucid, all-encompassing & comprehensive knowledge on infectious diseases.

• To impart an overall understanding of clinical, microbiological & epidemiological perspectives of infectious diseases.

• To know and understand its applications in the hospital, as well as in the community.

Mission

• To be a source of excellence at the undergraduate & postgraduate level in academics, research & diagnostics in Microbiology.

• To impart sound principles of ethics in the profession, research & academia.

• To reach out to the community about infectious diseases rather than just being confined to the laboratory.

Academic Activities

  • We are committed in equipping our students (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) with a deep understanding of the microbial world and its
    Relevance to clinical medicine.
  • We equip the students as per the CBME curriculum, providing a holistic approach to all aspects of clinical microbiology, infectious disease,
antimicrobial resistance, laboratory skills, hospital infection prevention and control, research and AETCOM.
  • Through innovative teaching methods and state-of-the-art facilities, we aim to cultivate the next generation of skilled clinical microbiologists,
clinicians and researchers who will play a pivotal role in advancing healthcare.

Research Activities

  • We are actively engaged in research activities contributing to the understanding of emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and
    diagnostic methods.
  • Encouraging a culture of research and innovation within the laboratory to explore new technologies and methodologies for combating
AMR. This may involve collaboration with research institutions and industry partners.
  • Participates in various intramural and extramural funded projects and collaborative research work with the National and International Universities.

Hospital Infection Control Activities

  • The department provides guidance on infection prevention and control measures essential for the well-being and safety of patients, their
families, health workers, and the community
  • This includes recommendations on cleaning and disinfection practices, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage and environmental
surveillance to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
  • Actively involved in antimicrobial stewardship to promote the appropriate use of antimicrobials, improve patient outcomes, and
    reduces microbial resistance.
  • Regular training programs are conducted to educate the staff and enable and assist all categories of HCWs to adhere to comprehensive IPC
practices at all levels of care.
  • Conduct HAI surveillance & OT surveillance and investigate the outbreaks.
  • Audit the effective implementation of IPC measures: Hand Hygiene audit, Biomedical Waste Management audit.

Diagnostic Services
